Why Natural Toothpaste Is Better Than Your Regular Toothpaste

| February 17, 2010

You may have been reading about the virtues of natural toothpaste and wonder, “Why natural toothpaste? And is it really any better than what I’m using?” Well, the answer is a resounding, “Yes”. There are several reasons that natural toothpaste makes a better choice than regular toothpaste. Knowing these reasons could help you understand why you should stop using your current toothpastes and go with natural toothpaste.

First of all natural toothpaste contains more mint oils, which are what count most in a toothpaste. Mint is a natural ingredient which has a very powerful effect on bacteria that live in the mouth. Toothpaste’s biggest job is to kill this bacteria so that plaque can’t grow on your teeth and so that your mouth feels and smells fresh. Because regular toothpastes have so many other ingredients, they actually have less mint, which is why natural toothpaste is more beneficial.

Secondly, regular toothpastes are filled with harmful ingredients. We’ve all been told that we need fluoride to prevent cavities. But, did you know that fluoride can be toxic in high quantities? Fluoride can help prevent cavities in children, but adults have no need for it. And, since most of us have no choice but to drink fluoridated water, even our children are likely getting all they need without having it added to toothpaste.

Common toothpaste also consists of Sodium Laurel Sulfate, a detergent. It is what makes your toothpaste to become bubbly, however give light effect whatsoever. However, SLS is a common skin irritant as well as magnifies the prevalence of canker sores to those who may be prone to them. We simply don’t want it and have zero benefits from including it inside toothpastes.

Lastly, ordinary toothpaste commonly involves saccharin as a sweetener. Saccharin is long been linked with cancer in lab mice, therefore it’s specially a suspicious component. Not many foods use it for sweetening anymore. Hence, why natural toothpaste may become advantageous options is due to the fact that they prevent oral bacteria more effectively and possess fewer risky ingredients compared to common toothpastes. It looks truly understandable that natural toothpaste is an appropriate option for each of us, isn’t it?

Stopping the bacteria in the mouth may be toothpaste’s only critical task, the general reason why all natural toothpaste must be the best option. The act of brushing removes almost all food and leftover food debris; although you only use water. So, the toothpaste is made to eradicate the germs. When the bacteria can’t be cleaned habitually from your mouth, you will suffer from gingivitis and halitosis. Additionally, all-natural toothpaste only seems more expensive. Although you might pay more for a container, it would be more greatly concentrated compared to any toothpaste you’ve ever used, therefore it will last a lot longer. Many might even be mixed with water to use as a mouthwash, as well.

Oral care can greatly influence your overall health. Fortify your oral health with beneficial products made with organic and essential oils. Understand how natural toothpastes, mouthwashes and other remedies can protect you from canker sores, bad breath, gingivitis and even gum disease through OraMd. Battling Canker Sores - Prevent or Heal Them in a Day (Really!)

| November 11, 2008
by Janet Malley

If you suffer from canker sores, then you know how painful and irritating these recurring ulcerated mouth sores can be. They appear on the inside of your mouth - on the tongue, soft palate (the back portion of the roof of your mouth), or inside your cheeks, and are round, white, or gray in color, with a red edge or border.

There seems to be a controversy on the cause of canker sores, and even exactly what they are - a bacterial or viral infection? An allergic reaction to certain food, or a vitamin deficiency?

Try to determine the next time you get a canker sore, what events occurred just prior to the eruption. Were you tired or under stress? Did you have a dental appointment that might have been a little painful? Did you eat something acidic, like a lemon or tomato? If you can zero in on a recurring pattern, you are on the way to relief.

IS A VIRAL INFECTION CAUSING YOUR CANKER SORES? The herpes simplex I virus can be triggered by stress, fatigue, pain or irritation occurring inside or outside of the mouth. When triggered, a sore can erupt on the outside of the lips in the form of cold sore. It can also cause a canker sore inside the mouth. Chemo therapy or radiation treatments can also trigger a canker sore.

Anti-viral Treatments:

Golden Seal Mouth Wash - Golden Seal is an herb. You can make your own golden seal mouth wash by mixing a quarter teaspoon of salt and half a teaspoon of golden seal powder (contents of one capsule) into a cup of warm water. Be aware that the golden seal powder will not dissolve completely but the mixture will still work just fine as a mouth wash. Rinse your mouth with this mouthwash at least three times a day.

Use it to make a mouth wash by mixing a quarter teaspoon of salt and half a teaspoon of golden seal powder (contents of one capsule) into a cup of warm water. Be aware that the golden seal powder will not dissolve completely but the mixture will still work fine. Rinse your mouth with the mouth wash at least three times a day.

Canker Sores Begone - Because this topical herbal product is ready-made and packaged in a small plastic bottle that will fit in your pocket, it’s convenient for frequent applications throughout the day. Those I’ve recommended it to find it more effective than anything else they’ve used.

PERHAPS A FOOD ALLERGY? If you’ve noticed a canker sore after eating acidic foods such as citrus fruit or a tomato, or other foods such as chocolate, grapes, strawberries, certain nuts, sugar, coffee, spicy or salty foods, you may be close to solving the puzzle.

To determine if a specific food, or more than one food, is causing your problem, do something called “food elimination”. For a few weeks, eliminate the suspected foods. If there have been no canker sores during that time, reintroduce them one at a time for a week or so to see which one, or more than one, triggers a canker.

Another approach is nutritional supplementation. Take 1,000-1,200 milligrams of buffered vitamin C daily to help reduce the level of histamines in your body. You can enhance the effectiveness of the vitamin C by taking 1,000 milligrams of quercetin daily as a preventive which will inhibit histamine release, reduce inflammation, and allow for quicker healing for an existing canker sore.

FOR YOU, IT MIGHT BE A VITAMIN DEFICIENCY - You might be deficient in Thiamine. Research indicates it can result in recurring canker sores. You might want to experiment to see if thiamin prevents your mouth sores by taking 100 milligrams daily.

A High-Potency Multivitamin - Not all vitamins are created equally. To assure you’re taking a high quality vitamin, buy from a health food store or online health food retailer. The high-potency vitamin should include nutrients required to help prevent canker sores. Look at the label and make sure it contains 800 micrograms of folic acid, 20 milligrams of zinc, 500-1,000 micrograms of vitamin B12, and 10 milligrams of iron. Buy additional supplements to make up the difference of what your vitamin is low on.

If nothing has worked from the previous recommendations, don’t worry. Here are two additional methods from which many people have found success:

Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice (DGL) - This is a form of the herb known as licorice. It has anti-inflammatory properties, speeds the healing process, and soothes the discomfort of canker sores. Empty the powder from a capsule into one half cup of lukewarm water, dissolve the DGL, and swish the solution around in your mouth. Repeat this at least two or three times a day until the sore has healed.

Tea Bag - Tannin from tea may relieve the pain almost instantly. Hold a used tea bag against the sore for a few minutes. Repeat a few times daily until healed.

If one remedy doesn’t seem to work, just try another. For many, solving this problem requires patience and persistence, so be willing to invest it.
