Teeth Whitening Systems Enhance Your “Smile” Appeal!

| October 20, 2008
by Dane Masters

If you are like most adults, you have a tremendous problem going to the dentist. But unless you go for your regular quarterly or half-yearly sessions, you are unlikely to have the idea oral hygiene program you need. Also, if you want to keep your pearly whites at their very whitest, you need to make those visits to the dentist more regular. Or do you?

Americans today have become very conscious of the difference that pearly-white teeth can make to their looks and confidence. And so they have paved the way for the launching of numerous teeth whitening systems; so much so, that it has become a separate industry of its own today! A dental clinic offers solutions that can seem very complex, but that is only if you visit the dentist. Some enterprising manufacturers have come up with teeth whitening systems that can be self-used within the privacy of one’s own home. There are of course, a confusing array of teeth whitening systems presented today, but we will narrow down the choices to the most “in demand” and easy-to-use ones.

If one requires one of the best teeth whitening systems today, then he/she should go in for the molded tray teeth whitening system. The trays can be adjusted to suit the contours of the teeth. Additionally, the special bleaching solution used to fill the trays is drawn from syringes. Solution strength is customized to suit individual needs. Naturally, the person can afford to take a chance, since the system seems to have been specially made for him or her. After the trays are filled with the solution, they are placed on the teeth. Based on how much whitening is required, the trays stay for maybe just a few minutes, or even more than two hours. Despite all this, if the customer is left feeling dissatisfied, his/her money is returned to him/her.

Every individual has a different set of teeth; so it follows that the teeth whitening system should be customized to suit that particular individual’s requirements. And this is what the moldable tray teeth whitening system offered. Hence, it always outdid other quick-fix solutions in popularity! There were certain products brought out in the market just to cater to as large an audience as possible—not interested in catering to individual tastes. These included–polishes and sparkling kits, home buffing kits, powder-based teeth whitening systems, rotary cleaning and specialized toothpastes. These were just meant to keep stained teeth hidden, so that the general appearance was sparkling and clean!

A teeth whitening system becomes effective only if it contains one essential ingredient–carbamide peroxide. It is this chemical that has a miraculous effect on the stubbornest of stains, giving teeth a healthy appearance. There is even a fixed percentage in which it has to be used to get the maximum benefit–16% (can be slightly more too). But, various teeth whitening systems adopt varying percentages. Should any of them contain more than 22% of this particular chemical, the individual is sure to suffer from irritation of the mouth lining and gums. There may be people who try to prepare their own teeth whitening system at home with the aid of carbamide peroxide; they are advised not to do so. If the effects are not what they should be, they would only have themselves to blame!

Gum Disease Can be the Fight for Your Teeth

| October 15, 2008
by Sally

When we are kids we focus on the dentist and the hygienist as giving advice on how to avoid tooth decay. Later as adults we realize that everything in the mouth is connected and related so all of the brushing and flossing advice over the years can help prevent gum disease as well. Kids don’t like the drill and the chair, but have a very high tolerance for the minor annoying gum disease problem. A little bleeding and sensitivity don’t bother them much and the problems can often go untreated.

The most common gum disease is gingivitis and most people are familiar with the term from television advertisements for dental products. Gingivitis gets the name from the gingival tissue of the gum that surrounds the bottom of the teeth in the mouth. If people practice poor oral health and allow plaque to stay on their teeth, it can feed an explosion of bacteria under the gums at the base of the teeth.

If the bleeding persists past a couple of days, it may show the presence of gum disease types other than gingivitis. If the bleeding worsens and the inflammation continues the disease may be periodontitis instead of gingivitis. Periodontitis is the strong uncle of gingivitis and not a disease to fool around with or ignore.

The extra bacteria usually like to hang out near the base of the tooth and under the gum. Gum disease often starts in this protected and hard to clean area of the mouth. The tissues around the bacteria party get irritated and swell with a color change towards the angry red side of the spectrum. The swelling will have some bleeding associated with it as well.

The treatment for this gum disease is very much the same actions that can prevent it to start with. Daily use of the toothbrush is the easiest and first step towards preventing problems. The action of the toothbrush cleans food particles out of the mouth and disrupts the formation of plaque on the teeth surfaces. The plaque will try to reform every 10 to 12 hours so repeated brushing activity is required. This is the basis of the usual mantra to brush in the morning and again at night.

There are other gum disease problems that can be seen first as bleeding gums. It is possible for a virus such as herpes to get inside the mouth and cause bleeding. The disease will form small sores on the gums in various areas of the mouth and seriously irritate the tissue. The bleeding will not stop until the virus is destroyed.

The rate this gum disease progresses is very rapid and can seriously affect your entire mouth if not treated effectively in the beginning. If not treated, the infection spreads up the tooth canals to work on destroying the root tissues and ligament structures attaching the tooth to the mouth. The unchecked progress on this disease will eventually affect the bone structures of the jaw and actually can destroy the bone.

Periodontitis is a serious gum disease that can be prevented much easier than it can be treated. Keeping the gum and teeth areas clean often and using an antiseptic mouthwash to control the bacteria are essential actions.

Five Tips That Will Get Rid of Bad Breath and Eradicate Halitosis

| October 14, 2008
by Morgan Mathers

Bad breathe or halitosis, as the medical professional would say, is something that each of us suffer from at one time or another. Many people often think that this bad odor is a result of something that is in their stomach. This is not the case, however, as the foul odor derives from your mouth due to the bacteria that has taken up residence and is growing.

If you let this bacteria build up without treating it, you will find that the terrible smell will get worse over time because the bacteria will use anything it can to produce that bad smell. In order for you to get rid of bad breath, you will need to start managing your breath health by applying these 5-techniques.

The first technique to fighting bad breath is to monitor the foods you eat on a daily basis. There are foods we eat that our bodies will turn into sulfur. Now, if you have ever smelled sulfur you will know it is a horrible stench that smells just like rotten eggs. To avoid smelling like this, simply avoid consuming milk, garlic, onions, cheese, alcohol, fish, and coffee.

The second task you should carry out is to start adding a brushing and flossing practice after each meal. This will effectively get rid of the halitosis that resides on your teeth and gums plus it also is a great way to help cure gingivitis. Just try to carry a small toothbrush, floss, and toothpaste so you can make sure that you will be able to brush your teeth and floss after each meal you eat.

The third task you should carry out is to make sure you scrape your tongue daily. Most of the bacteria that live in your mouth reside near the back of your tongue. Scraping your tongue can be carried out when you brush your teeth.

The fourth task you should carry out is to make sure you finish off your brushing routine with some mouthwash. This is important because the mouthwash can get to the germs which your toothbrush and floss can not reach. Mouthwash is also an effective gum disease treatment. Just make sure you rinse your mouth enough to cover all of your teeth and reach the back of your mouth.

The fifth technique to fighting bad breath is to make sure that your mouth never becomes dry. The reason for this is that bacteria thrive in a dry atmosphere. By keeping your mouth moist, you will trigger your saliva glands to start working which helps slow bacteria growth, washes the plaque away from your teeth, reduces the effect of the acids in your stomach, and prevents tooth decay. If bad breath is a problem, try and carry water with you to help keep your mouth wet throughout the day.

There is no reason to constantly hide in shame due to having bad breath. You can simply apply these techniques to your daily schedule to get rid of bad breath. Just remember to avoid the foods that cause you to smell like rotten eggs and to take care of your mouth appropriately.
